Description
Congress Center Hamburg is one of the largest convention centers in Germany and an important venue for Hamburg's business and cultural life. It is located adjacent to the Planten un Blomen park and the Hamburg Dammtor station. The center opened on April 14, 1973, becoming the first facility of its kind in the country. Its purpose was to develop business tourism and attract international congresses.
Over the decades, the complex has been expanded and modernized several times. In 2017, a major renovation project by Tim Hupe Architects began. The renovated center reopened in 2022: the interior spaces were completely reimagined, a modern multi-level glass foyer was created, and new halls were added, all while preserving the historic brick walls of the main theater. Today, the CCH boasts more than 50 halls with a total floor area of approximately 105,000 m² and can accommodate up to 12,000 guests at a time.
The center's stages host not only industry congresses and political gatherings, but also concerts by world-renowned stars—Queen, ABBA, Hans Zimmer, and Deep Purple have all performed here. The venue is also known for hosting major international forums and festivals.
