Description
The Berliner Waldbühne or "Berlin Forest Stage" is one of the most beautiful open-air concert venues in Europe.
It was built for the Olympic Games in 1936 and was originally called “Dietrich Eckart Open Air Theater”, in honor of the German journalist and follower of National Socialism Dietrich Eckart. The main feature of the forest stage is that it is built in the style of an ancient Greek theater: the rows of seats increase as they move away from the stage, which significantly improves the propagation of sounds.
After World War II, the stage received a new name - Waldbühne and initially served as an open-air cinema, and was later used for boxing matches. By the 1960s, the war damage to the Waldbühne had been completely repaired. Since 1962, the forest stage has been used primarily as a concert venue.
The total area of the Waldbühne is 69,585 square meters and can accommodate 22,290 spectators. Every year it is visited by about 500,000 people who enjoy not only the performances of their favorite rock and pop musicians, but also the unique atmosphere that reigns around this truly incredible place.
